Appointment of Chris Hart, of the Institute for Human Centered Design, to the U.S. Access Board

The Design for All Foundation would like to congratulate the Institute for Human Centered Design (IHCD) on the appointment of Chris Hart, the Institute’s Director of Urban and Transit Projects, to the United States Access Board by President Barack Obama. The U.S. Access Board is an independent Federal agency that provides leadership in accessible design under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and other laws. Its governing Board functions as a coordinating body among Federal agencies and represents the public, particularly people with disabilities. Valerie Fletcher, Executive Director of the ICHD, said: "This is an important milestone in Chris Hart's passionate commitment to inclusion. Not only is he a champion of accessibility and universal design, but he's built substantial expertise in transportation and public realm design and construction. We are very proud to have one of our team appointed to the Access Board. I'm confident that the Board and the nation will benefit from his service." Chris has authored three editions of Getting Around Boston, as well as A Rider's Guide to the MBTA (Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority) and worked on numerous transport, pedestrian and park projects, as well as ADA Transition Plan projects. He serves on several transport, accessibility and planning committees and is a member of the board of directors for the LivableStreets Alliance, Agassiz Village, and the Massachusetts Disability Law Center.
