The Swedish city of Östersund has win for the third time the "Flag of Cities and Destinations for All 2016"

The city of Östersund was awarded for the third consecutive year with the "Flag of Cities and Destinations for All 2016" and reaching a record again, because their investment in actions and projects of Design for All in 2015 was the 36% of the investment budget.

A society without barriers is an inclusive society that also makes Östersund an attractive place to live and work in. This has Östersund expressed well in its strategy "A Östersund for all", adopted in 2015. It has a clear, and Swedish municipalities uniquely carved out a strategy covering the whole process from words to action.

Among the actions undertaken in 2015 include:

- The sports hall located close to Wargetin school has been rebuilt and extended.

- The feasibility study for the redevelopment of Theatre Storsjöteatern.

- Reconstruction of the retirement home Brunkullans. This elderly care center has been rebuilt with a new, larger entrance, disabled toilet, larger spaces in corridors and a more modern kitchen to facilitate the staff’s work.

- Due to a rising number of pupils Vallaskolan has been extended with a new building for the pre-school. The buildings have been made accessible for all.

- Acoustics and improvement of lighting in schools and kindergartens.

- Measures to improve accessibility in the street environment with custom pedestrian crossings, bus stops, pedestrian paths, and more benches along the walkways, improvements to land surfaces, walkways and benches at the playgrounds, improved street lighting and more.
