Zero Project selects Network for Excellence: “Towns and Cities for All” selected as an Innovative Practice 2014

The Network for Excellence: “Towns and Cities for All” has been selected as an Innovative Practice 2014 by the Zero Project.

The Zero Project, launched by the Essl Foundation and carried out in collaboration with the World Future Council and the European Foundation Centre, aims to work towards a world without barriers, according to the principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD). To this end, it undertakes research in three areas: social indicators, innovative practices and innovative policies.

Each year the project focuses on a particular theme, with accessibility being the topic for 2013/14. In 2012/13 employment was the focus, while in 2014/15 the theme will be independent living and individual rights.

For this edition, 243 nominations for Innovative Practices were received from 58 countries from which 132 finalists were selected. A total of 54 of these were finally named Innovative Practices and recognised at the Zero Project Conference 2014.

On hearing that the network had been selected as an Innovative Practice, Imma Bonet, Design for All Foundation Executive Patron, commented: “The aim of the network is to make elected representatives, council workers and business people aware of the positive impact resulting from initiatives to implement accessibility and Design for All in towns and cities throughout the world. We hope this recognition from the Zero Project will help the network to inspire international stakeholders to participate in the creation of spaces which are more and more welcoming, friendly and comfortable for their residents and visitors.”
